For a lot of people, keeping a garden journal is as important as breathing. For others? We totally forget that we have 938,489,834 pepper seeds and DO NOT NEED MORE! But we buy more anyways…. Because we are insane and really like peppers. However, I also hate wasting money and if I already have a ton of pepper seeds, I really shouldn’t buy more. This garden journal really helps keep me on track and saves me a ton of money.

I love gardening. I love watching my plants grow and thrive. But man, I wish I could remember how to save every single seed. Or remember which of the 4 varieties of jalapenos my family really liked. How about remember that we prefer the German Johnson tomato over the Cherokee purple? Sometimes, when you’re keeping up with not only the garden, canning, kidding season, and homeschool, something slips. For me, it’s usually the finer details of the garden.

Since I am a planner, and very forgetful, I made this planner. Over the years, it has been tweaked to include somethings and then cut down to avoid repetitiveness. But this journal is my winner and I love it!

Are you constantly forgetting what seeds you have on hand?

Same! Before this garden journal, I was constantly ordering seeds I thought I wanted. Only to find out come planting time, that I have 9 million oregano seeds. Who needs that many?!

There are two tabs devoted to seeds! One is seeds on hand. This is your seed inventory! The other is your seeds saved. If you are into saving seeds, which everyone should be, it tells you how you did it as well as information about the mother plant. This information is invaluable if you are starting out!

Can’t remember what you did 3 years ago for the Japanese beetles?

The pests tab will tell you! You can simply scroll through the years until you find what you are looking for! And it’s not just for beetles. Any pest that you have, including molds, blights, etc, can be put into this section so you aren’t scrambling to figure out what to do.

Want to track how many seedlings you started?

Easily done. All you have to do is input how many seeds you started, where and when. Started too many peppers last year **guilty**, you can look back at your garden journal and see how many you planted, of what variety and make decisions! It’s really that simple!

This journal is both digital and printable. The printable is a 19 page PDF and comes in two different sizes (8.5×11 and 5.5×8.5). The main pages are actually dividers that can be put into a binder. It also has charts that can be printed out.

However, for those of that are more digitally minded, there is also a spreadsheet that you can add links to, plenty of notes and more. There are tabs for your orchard, pests, soil tests and more.

Personally, I use both the printed and digital. The digital is for me in the cold dreary winter months when I am planning the greatness of the next garden. I use the printed version when I am out in the garden and want a physical copy to write on as I go.

I couldn’t in good faith ask you to buy each one individually so I decided, “what the hell, give them both.”

In all the years that I’ve been growing a garden, the fall garden has steadily remained my favorite. Which is funny because I don’t really like any of the brassicas, which is what most people know the fall garden for. I prefer the root vegetables and cool air. But I have learned over the years…
