When should you start an emergency garden?

An emergency garden should not be started in an emergency.

Gardening is a skill that needs to be practiced regularly. Not during a time of emergency.

Emergencies can look like anything from a natural disaster to a job loss to illness or injury.

Learning ANY skill during times of hardship doesn't usually lead to success.

Building your garden skills now, when you have the luxury of failure, is the best time to start a garden.

An emergency garden should include seed varieties that you will actually use, not what someone thinks you should have.

As you are picking out your seeds, be sure to pick varieties that grow well in your area.

An emergency is not the time to find out you can't grow tomatoes or zuccinni.

Learning to grow food is not an easy skill to learn on the fly. So start your gardens early and small to maximize success.
